Cold, Alone, and Unwanted Empty Cold, Alone, and Unwanted

    Post  @spy Mon Jul 27, 2009 9:30 am

She felt so alone. So unwanted. She walked along feeling so down. She hadn't seen another horse in forever. Ever since she was driven out of her old herd. She had made one dang mistake. They couldn't forgive her. They were jerks, she realized. She looked up into the sky, not even one single star out. That made her feel even more alone. She looked back down to where she was walking.

Her throat ached, dry from no water. The path she walked on was hard and crusted. She hadn't ate since 2 days ago. She had a small gulp of water 1 day ago. But other then that nothing. She didn't even feel hungry. Just alone and unwanted. She had been traveling for 3 weeks now. Trying to find a home.

Her ribs now stuck out and her hooves were a mess, cracked from walking on this hard ground. She laid down, feeling no energy anymore.

So this was his new home for now. Outcast walked along quickly, sore from yesterday. From the fight. He had taken a hard blow to his shoulder, his hind left hock was swollen from where his father's sharp hoof had struck it, and his right ear was ripped from where the larger stallion had dug in and tore it with his teeth. Outcast had seen it happened to his brothers, and knew it would happen to him. When the colts started to rebel against their father's rule, he drove them out. One by one.

Now Outcast walked these barren lands with no particular purpose. He knew eventually he would like to return to claim a herd of his own, but for now he was enjoying the freedom of finally being independent. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to have some company...

This barren lands are quite evil, dawn thought. No food, No water? Not even a single other horse.

Dawn stood back up, her throat burned and she knew she had to find some water or she would die. Glancing around before starting to walk in an unknown direction, she forced her legs to move. They ached and screamed in protest but she fought against them and won. She heard a thuding and swiveled around, pricking her ears towards the noise.

Still, maybe she was just hearing things. She saw no more movement, she still hoped. Hoped it was another living horse. She whinnied out, hoping to get a whinny back.

Out of nowhere came a whinny! Outcast's head shot up into the air and his ears pricked towards the sound. It was a mare, and she wasn't far off. Just the sound excited him, and he broke into a trot, shuffling over a small hill and there she was. She looked like a mess, as if everything bad in the world had fallen on her at once. Outcast immediately felt a strong urge to go to her and comfort her, but he knew better than to startle her. He announced his arrival with a soft snort and approached her.

Up close, he could see she was in a great deal of pain. Her legs looked badly swollen and her hooves terribly dry. She looked so thin it was hard to believe she was still alive at all.

"Who did this to you?" he murmured softly, eyes searching hers.

Suddenly the young stallion came running up to her. He looked her over, eyes screaming in shock. She looked back at him, he looked a whole lot healthier then her, and he seemed to have life inside him.

"My herd. This horrible land." She said. Her herd had forced her out, into this land, and the land had just tore her to pieces. She had a cut above her right eye, from when her own father had kicked her in the face. The only one who hadn't wanted her gone from the herd was her brother, who would eventually be forced out of the herd as well. She shouldn't have made that stupid mistake, she thought.

"I am sorry to bother you. You probably hate looking at what a mess I am" She said, turning away.

"You need help," Outcast said, stepping closer. As she turned away he bumped her gently with his nose. "Don't go," he said softly. "We can find food and water. We can get out of here, I promise." Outcast tried not to show his doubts. He had only been in the wastelands for one day and had no idea how far it was to the nearest watering hole or patch of grass. There were only boulders scattered about... hills, ditches, and masses of hard packed dirt.

"We need to get out of the sun," Outcast told her as he spotted a cluster of boulders nearby. "It's shady over there. You can lean up against the rock, too, I bet it's cooler than the ground. Come on, I'm here now... you aren't alone. It's going to be okay."

Usually stallions were not supposed to go out of their way to help mares. Mares were prizes— they were to be shown off and collected and then bred. But Outcast knew he would not be able to sleep at night knowing he had abandoned a wounded and dying mare in the wastelands, and he may end up needing her, too. Perhaps his motives were entirely self-serving, but she was company. He couldn't fly solo forever.

Sori walked and walked and walked. It seemed like she wasn't getting anywhere fast. She was in lots of pain. The cuts on her neck and sides were burning from the sun. She tried licking the ones she could reach to keep them moist but her mouth was very dry. It had been almost two days before she had any water in her mouth or food in her stomach. Her legs told her to stop moving and lay down but she knew that if she did that she would surely die. So Sori kept on walking, hoping for some kinda of water, food, or even another horse.

Sori had flash backs of what happened to her the past few years. Her father died of old age even though he didn't seem to be very old. Once that happened that is when the herd started falling apart. There were only mares in his herd, so the loan group of stallions came and started picking out mares one by one, leaving Sori to fend for herself. For some reason none of the stallions took her and Sori couldn't figure out why. She tried to rescue her mother one night but the stallion found out what was going on and beat her. That is where she got all her scars.

Sori stopped to take a break. Tired from the heat, she closed her eyes, hoping that this was all just a very very bad dream.

Silently Dawn laid in the shade after following the stallion.

"Than..ks" She stuttered. She rested, her heart wondering why this stallion was being so nice. She wasn't sure and she knew she probably would never realize why. "I'm..Dawn." she told him, wondering what his name was also.

He was comforting her. Telling her that she would be okay now, that he was there to help. This all confused her. In her other herd stallions just wanted her, because she was a mare. A prize. But this stallion wanted to help.

The sun still soaked into the shade, but it felt much cooler here. She felt tired, dizzy, and thirsty. She needed water. Surely he knew that?

Outcast waited patiently as Dawn settled herself in the shady spot. "I'm Outcast," he said plainly. His own name sounded strange to him. He nuzzled her again. "Try to get some sleep. You look like you could use some rest." Glancing around, he wondered where he could find some water. He knew that if he could just get Dawn to fall asleep for a while, she would forget her thirst for a bit while he searched.

Suddenly another mare appeared and Outcast let out a shrill whinny in her direction. He couldn't tell what she was looking for. She could be trouble... every now and then you got rogue mares out in the Wastelands looking for some sort of revenge or just feeling like starting trouble. Outcast watched her warily, ready to defend his spot by the boulders and drive the mare off if necessary. He drew himself up as big as possible, standing squarely. "Who are you?" he demanded.

The mare looked around the barren land, her vision only slightly currupted from the heavy blow above her eye. No sign of anything. Food, water, shelter, life. She walked along, looking down at the ground, only hoping the brutal high sun would soon fade down into the hard, never ending horizon. Her pace was slow, dragging her left hind behind her, a small trickle of blood sliding down her right fore. It's been three weeks, she was almost ready to give up. Laying down by a small, dead plant, she rested her head in what shade was there. The sun burned her body, her black coat only attracting it. She could feel the warmth pouring into her wounds, healing them. Her muscles rippling, the poorly made stitches pulled against her skin. With one last shake, the mare finally fell asleep on the dry, cracked terrain.

Sori heard the shrill whinny of what seemed to be a stallion. Sori looked to the horizon and saw the stallion walking towards her. She wanted to run, not knowing what the stallion was going to do, but her feet were just to tired and didn't budge. "My name is Sori. I mean no harm. I am just looking for water." She said to the stallion. She kept her head low, showing that she was being submissive to him and didn't wish to challenge him. Her feet were really hurting. Her back foot gave out on her, making her loose her balance. Sori got back her balance and stood up as straight as she could. "I understand if you don't want me around here." Sori stated to the stallion.

Dawn felt more at ease. Outcast went and talked to the new mare, who was having trouble standing up. Dawn flicked her ears back and forth trying to hear what they were saying but she couldn't hear them anyways. She finally got tired of straining to hear them and rested her head onto the ground.

Her eyes drooped lazily, and her ears relaxed. Soon she was fast asleep... . . .

Outcast's eyes widened at the sight of the mare struggling to stand. "Sori," he said, his voice low so as not to wake up Dawn, "Come here. You need to lay down in the shade of these boulders." He found himself thirsty as well and knew that as soon as the mares were asleep, he could set out in search of water. He'd come back and sleep at night, and in the morning, before the worst of the heat set in, he'd lead them to the water.

As Sori slept she had a horrible dream. Fire took over the land they were on. There was no way to get out of the fire. It had engulfed the land in seconds and they were trapped by a ring of fire. The fire grew closer and closer.. and then.. Sori woke up in a dead sweat and looked around. It was night time and everyone was sleeping. The cool wind felt good against her. Sori tried to sleep but she after the dream anything and everything woke her up. She was also very thirsty and that didn't help any.

Once the two mares were asleep, as night descended, Outcast headed out in search of water. After what felt like hours of walking, he came across a huge watering hole. He was amazed he hadn't found this earlier. The moon reflected in the watering hole and his mouth watered. It was both beautiful and dangerous. Horses flocked to water... so did predators. A plan formed in his mind. He'd gallop back to the mares, catch some sleep before morning and then wake them early to get to the water. He turned around to set off for the mares. Suddenly, he realized he had no idea which way he had come from.

Dawn shook awake. The other mare was next to her but outcast was gone. She snorted in pain. Her sides stung from not having water, and when she got up she coughed. Her throat was so dry she couldn't even swallow. Flies landed on every part of her body and she was too weak to swish them away.

"Out----" She could barely talk. "OOUTCA--" She tried again. She hoped this final try would be it. "OUTCCASTT!" She whinnied as hard and loud as she could. Then she fell to her knees from weakness. Things were becoming very very bad.

Outcast thought he heard a faint cry in the distance, but he couldn't be sure. Spinning around frantically he set off at a flat-out gallop in the direction from which he had thought to have heard the noise. Then suddenly his hooves hit something solid in the darkness and he flipped forward, landing HARD on the ground beside it. Pain rocketed through his body, and his vision blurred. His first instinct was to get away from that thing... whatever it was, but he the pain was too much and all he could do was strain to see the creature through the darkness.

Cold, Alone, and Unwanted Empty Raven

Post  Haskins Sun Aug 16, 2009 12:54 am

Raven had no idea where she was. Her mother was running away from- wait, what was it called? She couldn't remember. . . it was some sort of, large animal. The wind was making her shiver. Raven would do anything if she was with her mother, again. She missed her more than anything. Was she all right? Did she get caught by- that, animal? A few tears fell on the ground when she thought of that.
How did I get here? Raven thought, as she had a flashback of her Mother and all of the other horses running for their lives. This place is horrible! No food, water, nothing! Not even life. . . She let out a sob.
Raven was so tired from running. She trotted over to a tree that was a few feet away from here and layed down. She was so tired, but thought if she went to sleep, she wouldn't wake up.
The foal shrugged, anything is better than here. Her eyes slowly shut.

The sky was the color of baby blue. There was one or two clouds in the sky, but it made the scenery even more beautiful. Leaves were blowing gently. A horse with a black coat looked up at the sun. He had to admit the land he found was beautiful, and wouldn't trade it for anything.
"You found a perfect spot," A white mare said to the black stallion. "You sure know how to make a horse happy."
The black stallion smiled. "I'm glad you like it. We've only been here a month, but It feels like we've been here for years, don't you think?"
"Yes," The mare nodded,"I even think little,Raven, loves it to! Look at her playing with Jane. When we were back in our old land, they never said a word to each other."
The black stallion was about to say something, but his ears pointed up. "Grab the foals, quick! I smell an enemy, near by!"
The white mare's eyes went wide. She galloped over to Raven and Jane. "Stay beside me. No where, else!"
"What's happening?" Raven's voice was shaky.
The black stallion neighed loudly so that every horse could hear. Everyone looked up at him, then lead the way out of the danger. This was a nightmare.
Everybody was running so fast, Raven's eyesight was getting blurry. It was hard for her to tell where she was going. When she looked on the side of her, she couldn't see her mother or her friend, Jane.
When she was exhausted from running, her legs stopped. She realized that she has been following dirt blowing in the wind the whole time. Where were the horses? Where was the nice grass she has been standing on a few minutes ago? Or has it been hours? Maybe even days!

When Raven woke up, she choked. Her throat hurt when she swallowed. Suddenly, she felt something weird picking at her legs and stomach. It tickled a little, but when she realized what it was, it didn't tickle anymore. "Get off!" She screamed in terror, jumping up on her four hooves.
Raven fell back down. She had no energy left.
When the annoying, black birds, realized that she was alive they flew away quickly.

Sori heard Dawn cry out. It woke her up with a fright. When Sori opened her eyes she saw that Outcast was nowhere to be seen. She couldn't even smell him. "Dawn where is Outcast?" she asked in a ver worried voice. Did a predator get him, did he just abandoned them after everything? No, he couldn't have.. or could he? Sori looked and saw that Dawn was on the ground. "Dawn whats wrong?" Sori then remembered that they were suppose to get water for her. "Wait here, I'll go find some water and I promise that I will come back. Ok?"

Raven shivered. The weather has gotten colder since the last hour. . . Atleast, she thought it did, maybe it was her imagination? She wished that her mother would come and save her, to tell her that everything would be all right, that she's safe now. But, there was a thought in the back of Raven's mind that she wouldn't be safe for awhile, or atleast until someone found her. Raven's legs were tired from looking around for another life in this deserted place, so she gave up and layed down under another tree.
Maybe this is a dream, Raven thought. No, not a dream, a nightmare!
When Raven turned her neck to rest her head on the ground, she noticed a cave not too far away from her. Raven got up on her four hooves and lurked over to the opening to see what was inside.
